Bui Simon’s Election to the Pepperdine University Board of Regents

In 2010, Pepperdine University elected philanthropist Bui Simon to its Board of Regents. Present in most universities, boards of regents function as the main governing organization and policy maker for these institutions. By working with administration and other governing and advisory boards throughout the school, these groups develop rules and propose ideas that will shape the future of the institution. Some of these entities may hold the responsibilities of overseeing the school’s finances and approving large-scale projects. Most boards of regents consist of thought leaders from around the nation who have a connection to the school.

Bui Simon Announces Angel Wings Foundation Scholarship Program

Bui Simon, administrator and benefactor of the Angel Wings Foundation International in Thailand, introduces the organization’s Rural Teaching Scholarship. This initiative seeks to educate children from underprivileged backgrounds by providing them with dedicated mentors.

The Angel Wings Foundation International is always looking for instructors who are willing to teach in rural areas of Thailand. Several lucky teachers will receive scholarship money for relocating to a rural area and teaching important skills to the local children. The foundation has a budget of 30,000,000 Thai baht—worth more than $1 million U.S. dollars—that will sustain 12 years of teaching scholarships.

Bui Simon recently worked with the mayor of Phuket to help select bright, young people who want to become teachers. The selection process requires an aptitude test, a 3.0 GPA, an interview, and a paper application. Ms. Simon says she looks forward to choosing and nurturing the best applicants from around southern Thailand to promote the gift of education.

Bui Simon, who was crowned Miss Universe in 1988, has spent the years since working on behalf of the underprivileged children of Thailand.
